Yukon Aurora/Northern Lights Viewing Sample Itinerary

Sundog Retreat has the best place in the Yukon for aurora viewing. Benefits of staying in an aurora-view (package) cottage at Sundog Retreat have to do with the quality of your aurora-viewing experience. Mother Nature decides when the aurora will appear, and they can show beautiful displays anytime in the night, lasting from 2 hours to 20 minutes.

When guests are travelling long distances to experience the aurora, it is best if they can do this from the comfort of their own accommodations, checking the skies regularly while they enjoy other comforts like an indoor fireplace, satellite TV, reading a book in comfort.

When our guests come to see aurora borealis, their chances at Sundog Retreat are much higher than at a downtown hotel. With your own private cottage outside the glare of city lights, you have 12 hours a night to watch for northern lights. And still lots of time to enjoy other activities during your stay!

Here is a taste of what a 4 night package stay at Sundog Retreat includes.

Guests enjoying Northern Lights ViewingDay 1

We’ll welcome you at the airport and give you a guided tour to Sundog Retreat, where your private cottage awaits you under our brilliant skies outside the glare of city lights. We’ll stop at the grocery store on the way to your cottage.

Our award-winning exclusive inn provides you with friendly on-site hosts and a unique, unforgettable Yukon experience. Snacks and beverages greet your arrival, no matter what time of day or night.

Daytime wildlife sightings include deer, moose, birds, foxes and rabbits right outside your window.

When darkness falls, view our northern aurora from your cottage or from our heated aurora viewing centre, complete with outdoor campfire space. If the aurora are quiet you can enjoy a dazzling display of constellations with a telescope or your naked eye under the stars. Watch the aurora from our outdoor hot tub, or warm up from the cold in the indoor sauna. Let yourself experience the quiet of a northern night away from the city.

These aurora viewing options are available each night during your stay.
