Our Roots

Sundog Retreat is owned by Andrew and Heather Finton. We have been growing this special business since September 2003.

Since that time, we have been honoured to work with a great staff team including our sister-in-law and brother Karen and Earl Thornton, who live on site with us and with our children. We’re a family-run business and enjoy making guests feel welcome.

We’ve also been very privileged to work with manyYukon organizations and staff teams that have come to Sundog Retreat for a range of planning sessions, training workshops, artistic and spiritual retreats. Some of these have worked with Heather and Andrew directly as facilitators (see profile here: Heather Finton profile).

For the first seven years of operation, much of our personal energy and love was also poured into working with young artists as they explore and enrich Yukon First Nation culture. (Check out www.northernculture.org and www.yukoncanoeproject2009.blogspot.com)

Andrew is also a well-known local woodcrafter, making hand-turned aspen burl oil lamps among other items. His workshop is located behind our main Studio… you may occasionally spot him covered in woodchips and dust!

Heather is also a poet and writer who is getting braver about sharing her thoughts. Some of these undercurrents can be explored at www.heatherfinton.com.
